Invisalign® Q & A

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a dental system that uses clear aligners to shift your teeth into the proper position. Braces have historically done this by affixing metal brackets to the front of your teeth. With an adjustable wire threaded through the brackets, your smile expert was able to shift your teeth gradually.

The problem, of course, is that brackets and wires are highly visible. Even if you don’t care about the cosmetic change of braces, you need to be prepared to visit your orthodontist regularly to have your wires adjusted.

Invisalign takes all the hassle — cosmetic and otherwise — out of straightening your teeth. With a series of clear aligners, it moves your teeth into the perfect position to give you an aligned, beautiful smile.

How does Invisalign work?

When you choose Invisalign, Dr. Yalamanchili takes a digital scan of your teeth in their current positions. With this scan, Dr. Yalamanchili creates a series of clear aligners that you use in succession.

These aligners are customized to fit precisely and discreetly in your mouth. They’re even trimmed to align perfectly with your gum lines, giving you the most comfortable, least visible fit possible.

You wear each aligner for between one and two weeks. During that time, it gradually and precisely shifts your teeth.

Swapping each aligner out for the next one in the series moves your teeth closer to the correct position. With each new aligner, you take another step toward your dream smile.

Can I eat and drink while wearing Invisalign?

No. In fact, the Invisalign system is designed so you don’t have to. You only need to wear your aligners for between 20 and 22 hours a day, leaving you plenty of time to eat, drink, or make a presentation without your aligner in place.

Another benefit of being able to remove your aligners is the ease of brushing and flossing. Instead of having to thread floss under the wires of braces, you can simply pop out your aligners to maintain your oral hygiene.
